'Trapped in a Dreadful Dream': Relatives of Unaccounted For Teens Await Answers After Alpine Inferno
The families of teens lost after a devastating inferno at a bar in a Swiss alpine town are enduring an painful period of uncertainty for confirmed information and requesting any details about their children online.
The blaze ripped through the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the Swiss Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the small hours of the first day of the year. Confirmed video show the roof structure being engulfed in flames as beverages with sparklers are held aloft.
Emergency services have warned that it could take days if not weeks to identify the those who perished of the fire, which claimed the lives of numerous partygoers and hurt another over a hundred. A spokesperson stated on the latest update that 113 of the those hurt have been accounted for, with work still underway to identify the other six.
In the meantime, relatives have been posting on online platforms to appeal for information about their loved ones who were in attendance that night.
Appeals for the Missing
The whereabouts of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, a teenager, are still unconfirmed, according to an public plea from his parent.
The resident of Lutry near the city, told a publication that she had returned to the city to check whether he was in the hospital, while his other parent did the equivalent search in the capital, but could not find him.
"It feels like a terrible dream, a nightmare. Either I find my son in the morgue, or I find him in critical condition. It's terrible," she stated.
She explained that some of his companions had been located with injuries covering nearly half their bodies. "It's indescribable; they endured a terrifying ordeal."
The Italian government has said that six of its nationals have not been located.
Included in that group is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage junior golfer, originally from Italy but now residing in Dubai.
The national sporting body has said that he is no longer with us, without directly referencing the fire, paying tribute to a "talented young man who represented dedication and true sportsmanship."
His father, is quoted as saying that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around midnight. An official spokesperson has clarified that a official announcement of his death is not yet.
Other Cases
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is also among the missing. His mother explained that he had been on vacation but had ventured out with friends and ended up at the bar.
"Someone with him said they escaped after the fire broke out and that he had his phone with him, but then at a specific moment he lost sight of him," she said, adding he had been wearing a distinctive gold chain.
One of his educators stated, "I've always been struck by his good nature and smile, alongside great maturity. Often ask if help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Greek and Swiss nationality but lives full-time in Switzerland, was also at the bar on that night, according to sources.
Her sibling has posted an appeal online, saying the family has had "no news" regarding the 15-year-old or the group she was with, who are also unaccounted for.
Officials from her country of origin say they are actively engaged with the developments.
